White shoes are also seen as one of the most versatile additions to both men’s and women’s wardrobes! A pair of white shoes just has this way of adding a certain flair to any outfit. They’re totally timeless!

Over time, though, white shoes turn yellow for various reasons. It could be that the white shoes are exposed to air (oxidation) over time. Hacks on How to Your Whiten Shoe Soles: Step-by-Step Guide

Hack #1: Use Baking Soda and Laundry Detergent

Can I use baking soda as a laundry detergent? - Quora

Instructions

The best part about this first technique on how to whiten a yellow shoe sole is that you probably already have all the ingredients in your cupboard. And what are these? Baking soda, laundry detergent, and an old toothbrush.

Okay, so you should first combine 1:1.5 parts of baking soda and detergent. Then, simply scrub this mixture into the shoe sole using the toothbrush.

Let the mixture sit for a while before putting the shoes in the washer or thoroughly cleaning it by hand. Remove the inner soles and laces if you put the shoes on a washing machine (set it in a delicate setting and add some towels to stop the shoes from banging against the washer drum or to balance the load).

Rinse the shoes to remove the laundry detergent and baking soda mixture and dry! That’s it and your white shoes will be as good as new.

Hack #2: Use Toothpaste

Another top on how to whiten rubber soles is by using toothpaste and an old toothbrush. Rub the toothpaste over the yellow or dirty areas of the shoe sole and add a sprinkle of water.

Continue to rub the shoe soles with toothpaste again and then switch to using a damp cloth to clean the entire sole. If you still see yellow color on the shoe soles, repeat the process above.

Hack #3: Use Micellar Water

Micellar Water: What It Is and How to Add It to Your Skin-Care Routine | Everyday Health

Instructions

Micellar water is normally used as a facial cleanser to remove oil, dirt, and makeup from the skin. Keeping the skin clear is easy because of the presence of micelles — compounds that are effective in removing dirt in deeper layers of the skin.

But micellar water can also be used in cleaning shoe soles. Simply put some micellar water on a cloth and rub it into the rubber soles of your white running shoes. This procedure also works on suede, rubber, and even leather materials.

This tip is best for on-the-go situations.

Hack #4: Use Vinegar and Baking Soda

Make Hot Ice From Vinegar and Baking Soda

Instructions

For our next trip, you may also use a typical ingredient you can find in your kitchen — like baking soda and vinegar. This is also a good combination. For the basic step, mix two tablespoons of vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water.

Use an old toothbrush or a cloth to scrub your running shoes or sneakers until clean. This procedure even works on canvas and leather too! If you don’t prefer this mixture, you may opt for one tablespoon of baking soda and half a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide.

Wait for at least 30 minutes for the mixture to sink into the shoe material. After that, rinse the soles with water and you’ll see a white shoe sole once again.

Hack #5: Use the Power of the Sun

Sunburn: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Instructions

Of course, this one is among our favorites. Simply put a 40 volume crème (can be purchased at your local beauty supply store) to the soles of your shoes.

After applying a good layer of volume crème in the shoes, cover it up with a plastic wrap. It would be easier to begin with the toe of the shoes first and then around the shoe itself. The purpose of putting a plastic wrap is so the 40 volume crème remains in place and it also holds the heat.

Now, the next step is to let the shoes sit in the sun for about 30 to 45 minutes to bake the volume crème as well as whiten the shoes. During this step, we suggest you rotate the shoes so you’ll know the sunlight is evenly balanced to the shoes.

After about half an hour of sunlight, remove the plastic wrap and clean the shoes using warm water.
